Coffee Break
| What cool gizmo would you dream up to help animals? How about a magic magnet to draw perfect adopters to their new best friends? Or a waterless kitty cleaner that alleviates bath time trauma for felines—and their groomers? Tell us about your great gadget and you could win a free coffee break (valued at $50) for your organization, courtesy of Animal Sheltering magazine. |

Euthanasia Resources

When euthanasia is necessary, animal caregivers must provide the most humane death possible for dogs and cats. The new animalsheltering.org euthanasia page includes guidelines, policy recommendations, training opportunities and more designed to ensure that shelter professionals are fully equipped for this difficult task. |
Some of you may already know me, but if not, I am Amanda’s sister. I do rescue with a friend on the southside of Atlanta. We have a special girl available for adoption, and we will be bringing her to Pawtropolis tomorrow if anyone would like to meet her. She is a white toy poodle that was hit by a car. The “good samaritan” (not so good if you ask me) that found her on the side of the road called animal control. Animal control picked her up and after seeing her condition, determined they would have to put her down. They called my friend Kathryn, who immediately went to pick her up and brought her to vet. She suffered from some head trauma, but will make a full recovery. Her eye is still draining some from the accident, but she is now home. Since we know Athens has the best homes (especiallty clients of Pawtropolis), we thought we would bring her to Athens tomorrow if anyone would like to meet her. She is approximately 4 years old and weighs less than 5 pounds…. a tiny girl. I will try to post pictures later. If you know of a great home that has been specifically looking for a small poodle, please pass the word. She will be at Pawtropolis from about 11:00 to 5:00.
Thanks,
Angel Pugh

Houston Woman Fries and Eats Pet Goldfish After Fight With Husband
Wednesday, September 30, 2009

PASADENA, Texas — Authorities say a Houston-area woman who was burned up at her former common-law husband fried their pet goldfish and ate some of them.
Pasadena police say it’s a civil matter and no charges will be filed. The seven goldfish were purchased together by the couple during happier times.
Police spokesman Vance Mitchell says the man reported on Saturday that the woman took the goldfish from his apartment.
Mitchell says the two argued earlier about some jewelry the man had given her but took back. She wanted the jewelry returned.
Officers who were dispatched to the woman’s home arrived to find four fried goldfish on a plate. The woman said she already ate the other three.

BANDIT
| This sweet 7 year old lab mix was surrendered to Greenville County Animal Control by his owner. He weighs 45 lbs. and should weigh 60. It appears he has been attacked by another dog and is missing a hugh chunk of his upper lip. His teeth are in such bad shape they are just falling out. This sweet boy has had a hard life of abuse and needed for someone to step up and take care of him. We waited until the last second for anyone to step up and no one did. The day he was to be euthanized we just couldn’t let that happen. He is at the vet being treated and has had surgery on the upper lip that is so damaged and infected. He is a sweetheart that is very confused as to how all this has happened to him. |
