Farley came to the shelter when he was a baby. He has now graduated to the big dog room, and he is so accustomed to being a pen that he has a hard time getting attention. With his red, white and blue leash, he is ready to spend July 4 with a new family. This black lab mix is at a perfect age to learn commands. To see Farley, visit the Henry County Animal Shelter at 527 Hampton St. (Ga. Hwy. 20/81), McDonough and ask about 042110/1410 (G64). The shelter is open 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday. It will be closed Saturday-Tuesday, July 6, for the holiday. Call (770) 288-7387 (PETS) or visit the website on petfinder.com.
Tip for success: Many animals are frightened by holiday fireworks. Please make sure yours are safe and secure and are wearing current tags or are microchipped. If your pet does get out, please check local animal shelters first and claim them.

Poor, guy. He’s been in the shelter since he was a pup! Please send this email to all your rescues and animal loving friends and see if we get a home for this sweet boy!!!! I can’t bear him being put down and that the only life he’s known is the shelter!!!
Thanks for your help. Please ask your friends and contacts to forward this on to their contacts. Together we can make a difference!

Please don’t think that Shady and Coco are safe. Yes we won’t euthanize them. It is costing us a forture to board these sweet dogs. The stress of being in a run is getting to them. Poor Coco is licking the top of her feet and she is getting lick granulomas. I walk them for an hour a day, give them lots of toys and bones but they need and deserve a family. They are very sweet and loving. PLEASE I AM BEGGING if someone can foster that would be great. They are fully vetted and chipped. House broken and love car rides. They are both 15 months and get along with other dogs. Good with children.
Coco pit mix knows heal, fetch, touch, watch me, by my side, sit and shake. She is very fully and does sumersaults. She is about 40 pounds.
Shady is a lab/hound mix. She knows, watch me, touch, heal, sit and shake. She listens very well. Shady grew up with children and does very well wtih them.
Please cross post. thanks so much, Rachael

Sebastian Was pulled by a local Rescue Friday. He has tested FIV Positive
and is too good a boy to be PTS. He purrs like the deep roar of a lion.
He is so sweet and loves people. He was turned in by a neighbor when
his owners moved off and left him to fend for himself.
He is presently @ Dr, Kay’s Animal Hospital. We are looking for a
Rescue or Adopter for FIV Positive needing a place to live out there life.
Please let me know if you have information that will help us secure him
a loving environment.
Thanks you so much.

I want to bring a special family to the attention of all the loving people on this listserve. If you live in Athens, you know it becomes a small town very quickly if you stick around, and suddenly you know everyone within some 6 degree circle. You probably remember a recent shooting in which a disabled son of the Norred family (Bill Norred retired from the USDA, which happens to be where I work), took the life of his 29 year old sister while injuring his other sister and his mother. In case anyone is puzzled right now, I am attaching the news story–not to be insensitive, just in case people hadn’t read about it.

The sister who lost her life, Leigh, was married and had a newborn daughter when she died. Her husband David, works two jobs and has help from his mom taking care of his little girl during the day. The couple had two cats and three dogs, and recently, David admitted that he could use some help placing a couple of the animals, as he was completely overwhelmed. He was able to place one of his cats right away, and made the tough decision to choose which dog would be easiest to place. The local rescues have agreed to help with listing, etc, but we wanted to send out the info in case anyone wants to step up right away for this pooch.
Samantha is a black corgie/collie mix, about 6 years old,~45 lbs. She is house-trained (used to being home alone during work), and knows basic commands like “sit.” She is friendly with most other cats and dogs, although she sometimes (true to breed) nips when at the dog park. She walks politely on a leash. Her only special need is that she sometimes gets hot spots near her tail and has a special shampoo to relieve them. She has a crate to come with her that she sometimes sleeps in. David said she is due for her parvo/distemper booster and annual heartworm test, but he would try to tend to that appt this week to get her ready for adoption. He added that if there were any issues and a new home changed their mind, she could come back to him so that she wouldn’t end up in a shelter.
If anyone is interested in meeting this pup or helping in any way, I know that David isn’t used to all of the help but I know he is certainly deserving; he is trying to ensure his pets aren’t neglected during this time of crisis. You can email me libertybelle@gmail.comand I can help put you in touch with David. –Stevie Sunfire and Starfox
