On August 25, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agents arrested Matthew Soto, co-owner and daily manager of Bark & Play, a dog-boarding and day-care facility in Brooklyn, NY. Soto has been charged with five counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty for severely neglecting several dogs boarded at the kennel.

Registration is now open for the 18th Annual Animal Law Conference at Lewis and Clark Law School. Register before Sept. 15 and receive an “early bird” discount. The Animal Legal Defense Fund is offering special travel grants to our active SALDF chapters; see website and learn how to apply!
See here: http://www.lclark.edu/law/student_groups/student_animal_legal_defense_fund/animal_law_conference/
Conference Mission Statement
The mission of the conference is to enrich legal advocacy for animals through sharing ideas, knowledge, and practical skills, as well as providing educational and networking opportunities.
History of Conference
The Animal Law Conference at Lewis & Clark was the very first academic conference to address the subject of animal law. In 1993, a small contingency of Lewis & Clark law students interested in animal welfare established the conference, a one-day symposium addressing wildlife issues. The event was a success. Members of L&C’s Student Animal Legal Defense Fund chapter made the conference an annual event.
Representative Feedback
- “Finally, a conference that lives up to its philosophy!”
- “Best conference I have ever attended – you need more.”
- “The panelists were wonderful and the cost for students was reasonable.”
- “Thanks so much for a wonderful weekend! I had a blast – it was well put together, planned, and went incredibly smoothly. Great job!”

Jewel is just a baby, under a year old!!! A black dog, which is not helping her stand out in the crowd.
She’s scared, and has only hours left. She has sponsorship and transport and pull help if someone
can foster her. All that stands between her and life now is a loving person to hold her until a home
can be found. See below. Please Facebook and network like crazy for this little girl. Thanks.
