Hi everyone!

An update on the mother cat and kittens rescued in Oklahoma. This lady has gone to extreme measures to help these sweeties! Please read the update below and if you can help with transporting the kittens to NJ or fostering them temporarily, or help with fostering or taking in the mother cat, please contact:

Shelley Gosney @ shelley_gosney@yahoo.com or call her at 404-438-6869

The momma and kittens all tested negative for FLV and have all their shots.

Shelley, who is trying to find homes for the kitty family she rescued in OK still needs help. She did find homes for the kittens, but now needs help getting 2 of the kittens to NJ, and also needs help with fostering and a home/rescue for the mama. Please read her new message below and if you can help with any of these requests, please contact her.

Thanks!

Hi Michelle, Hi Carrie.

Just wanted to give you both an update on the Oklahoma kitties and let you know that your cross posting and emails are working God is good! I got an email earlier in the week from a woman in New Jersey (Laure) that offered some information and said she could take them and get them into homes; she had also cross posted and sent the email out to friends and contacts. Well yesterday morning I got a call from a woman in New Jersey saying she had receive the email from Laure. She is wanting to adopt both the gray kittens; she said she has a heart for adopting “less than perfect animal” and when she read about our little one eyed guy she said “it just feels right”. The little black kitten has found a home in Dallas with a man I’ve known for about 20 years

So this leaves our beautiful black mommy cat needing a home; ladies I need your help. In the next 3 days I will be driving 5 1/2 hours to Northeastern Oklahoma to pick up them all up (today I will be buying a medium sized carrier) and then drive 5 1/2 hours back to Dallas to drop off the black kitten. I am then renting a car and driving from Dallas to Atlanta (12 hours) on Tuesday; arriving late Tuesday night.

Here is what I need:

1) I hear there in a network of animal transporters? Do you guys know anything about how and who does this? I need to get the gray guys to New Jersey. If needed I will end up driving them there as well but, as you can imagine, help would be great.

2) Temporary housing for the mommy cat and 2 gray kittens for a few days in Atlanta. I need a few days to re-group before getting the kittens to New Jersey. Do you know of anyone who could offer them a few days accommodation and love in Atlanta?

3) I need to find a foster or loving home for the mommy cat. We are still networking in Dallas but no one has stepped forward yet. I would love to keep her, as she is so sweet, but I am at critical mass right now. Do you guys have to time to check in with Good Mews and or some other organizations on m behalf?

Mommy cat was spayed this past week and everyone has been tested for FLV; the tests came back negative and all have been vaccinated. All other shots have been given as well.

Thank you both for your help thus far. Any additional energy, time and ideas you can lend regarding the above is greatly appreciated!

Shelley

I’ve never been near a goat before so I don’t really know what more I could say about these two babies.

Hi All
I know that this is a shot in the dark given the fact that A. a major snowstorm just hit the area B. it is 4 days before Christmas and C. it is a weekday BUUUUUUT this is an urgent situation. Poor Pete was pulled from a high kill shelter the day before his PTS date. He landed at the vet where the wonderful staff determined that he has a fractured elbow. With the holidays coming Pete needs to get out of boarding at the vet as they need the space AND the sooner he gets his elbow repaired the better. We have a foster home for him in Nashville where he can get the care that he needs. We just need to get him there. Sadly, his alternative is going back to the shelter as he can’t stay in boarding and there is no where for him to. This is the most urgent situation I have ever dealt with in rescue–literally do or die! Please please please crosspost like crazy and drive a leg if at ALL possible. You will be part of a Christmas miracle!

Legs can really be done at any time–if you can drive but need to do it at a different time PLEASE let me know as I can reconfigure things.

Hi - My name is Kathy Barfield and I live in Lawrenceville. We have horses in Walton County and yesterday while driving down the road to take hay to the barn we spotted a dog on the the side of this wooded road. The dog is a pit or pit mix. Beautiful tan with a white head, fairly skinny- eating a dead deer carcass. But she/he needs immediate medical attention (from the rear end there is either a dead stillborn pup hanging or perhaps a prolapsed rectum) . We tried for about 4 hours to catch her – but she kept running away. Called Walton County and they were nice- but its a long story- they left her for me to try to get some other help. I got some metal pie pans and left dog food- am going to take more food and an old blanket for her today. I need help to catch this beautiful baby before she dies of a horrible infection in the cold…. Don’t know what to do…… may a large live trap- need help please

Please call me -

STRAY dogs are commuting to and from a city centre on underground trains in search of food scraps.

The clever canines board the Tube each morning. After a hard day scavenging and begging on the streets, they hop back on the train and return to the suburbs where they spend the night. Experts studying the dogs say they even work together to make sure they get off at the right stop – after learning to judge the length of time they need to spend on the train. The mutts choose the quietest carriages at the front and back of the train.

They have also developed tactics to hustle humans into giving them more food on the streets of Moscow.

Scientists believe the phenomenon began after the Soviet Union collapsed in the 1990s, and Russia’s new capitalists moved industrial complexes from the city centre to the suburbs. Dr Andrei Poiarkov, of the Moscow Ecology and Evolution Institute, said: “These complexes were used by homeless dogs as shelters, so the dogs had to move together with their houses. Because the best scavenging for food is in the city centre, the dogs had to learn how to travel on the subway – to get to the centre in the morning, then back home in the evening, just like people.”

Dr. Poiarkov told how the dogs like to play during their daily commute. He said: “They jump on the train seconds before the doors shut, risking their tails getting jammed. They do it for fun. And sometimes they fall asleep and get off at the wrong stop.”

The dogs have learned to use traffic lights to cross the road safely, said Dr Poiarkov. And they use cunning tactics to obtain tasty morsels of shawarma, a kebab-like snack popular in Moscow. They sneak up behind people eating shawarmas – then bark loudly to shock them into dropping their food. With children the dogs “play cute” by putting their heads on youngsters’ knees and staring pleadingly into their eyes to win sympathy – and scraps. Dr Poiarkov added: “Dogs are surprisingly good psychologists.”

The Moscow mutts are not the first animals to use public transport. In 2006 a Jack Russell in Dunnington, North Yorks, began taking the bus to his local pub in search of sausages. And two years ago passengers in Wolverhampton were stunned when a white cat called Macavity started catching the 331 bus to a fish and chip shop.

WON’T? ANYONE HELP IN THIS UNFORTUNATE SITUATION?

ERIN BELL/ VET TECH – formerly with Pets are People/Alpharetta – (SOME of you may know Erin) this is her aunt who took her own life and now left 3 orphans – this was a tragedy in itself for a family to face. HELP!

Kay Kay is a 6 or so year old black and white 44# mixed breed spayed female. She was rescued maybe 4 years ago out of a very bad home where there were a lot of dogs struggling. Littly by little an angel was sneaking in and saving the dogs she could save. Somehow Margaret crossed her path and adopted Kay Kay. They have been constant companions since. Kay Kay is the Alpha dog in her home right now, I don’t know if she would assert herself in a new home, she lives in a mostly peaceful home right now. Her mom has died, though, and she really wants someone to love her that she can love back. She’s completely housetrained and UTD on vax, heartworm test and prevention, and fecal float. Lots of energy, loves to play and walk, and also likes to sit with family and watch a movie.

Sally is an adorable little brindle runt at 39#. I couldn’t tell you what she’s made of! French Bulldog? Boston Terrier? Boxer? Pit Bull?? Maybe a little Chihuahua in her family tree? She has tons of spunk and energy and is just so much fun to be around. She loves to be loved and loves to sneak in little kisses. She plays great with others! Don’t recall where she originally came from, but then she was bounced around until she found her home with Margaret. Unfortunately she has lost her mother and needs someone new to love and trust. Could that be you??? She’s UTD on vax, spayed, current on heartworm test and prevention, and fecal float.

Freckles is the adorable oddball of his pack at home. Dwarfed by dogs weighing 40-96 pounds, he has found his niche! He is a happy little JRT (mix?) who makes his own spots to relax in where the big guys can’t get in. He loves to bask in the sunshine on his favorite window ledge in the kitchen. He also loves to play with his sisters. He was found at a gas station about 3 years ago. Not neutered, no collar, no chip. Margaret brought him into her house to save his life and get him a new home. Then she couldn’t part with him!! Used to having German Shepherds and other large dogs, she discovered the joy of a lap dog. Now he needs a new lap to bring joy to. He’s neutered, current on vax and necessary tests, just waiting to find a new forever home.

Attention all SALDF students interesed in factory farm issues! Working to end
animal abuse since 1995, Compassion Over Killing focuses on ending and
preventing cruelty to animals in agriculture.

The Summer Litigation Interns will work on litigation projects aimed at
protecting farmed animals; most of these projects are plaintiffs’ litigation.
These projects will likely employ a variety of legal theories, relating to
areas such as state criminal cruelty laws, false advertising and unfair
competition laws, tort liability, environmental protection laws, administrative
law, tax, and corporate law. The interns will have opportunities to research new
projects as well as assist heavily with ongoing projects. They will work closely
with Compassion Over Killing’s general counsel.

Interested law students should apply with cover letter, resume, writing sample,
list of three references, and law school transcript to Compassion Over Killing,
c/o Cheryl Leahy, General Counsel, P.O. Box 9773, Washington, D.C. 20016, or
