Wynter and his brother Carmel (29582) are sooo adorable! They just love to be picked up and petted…and they are so soft! Wynter is white, gray, and brown while his brother is cream. I think Wynter might be the most comfortable around people than his brother. I’ve never been near a goat before so I don’t really know what more I could say about these two babies.

Figaro is an adorable kitten here at the pound. She has been here for a few days and has enjoyed her little play pen in the back room. I can tell she likes to jump around in her kitty box and is learning litter training. She is so cute with her big yellow and green eyes! She wasn’t too sure of my camera, but she loves to be held and petted all over. I hear she is a snuggle bug, so she would make a great pet for any home. Please rescues consider saving this sweetheart soon.

Gretchen is another wonderful, calm dog at the pound this week. She is
extremely friendly and well-mannered, not to mention her eyes are
absolutely stunning! Gretchen is listed as about 5 years old, so she
is past all those puppy antics but still has so much time left to
spend with you. She was a bit shy around the camera, but loved the
attention she was getting from us. She is a really unique looking dog
with a great personality, and I’m confident she would settle in easily
in a new home.
Update 11/20: Gretchen was another favorite to photograph today. She
loved to give me lots of funny poses as she displayed her readiness to
get ready for winter! Gretchen has a sweet disposition and is so well
behaved that she would make a great friend for any family. She may
even let you dress her up for fun
Update 11/21: This wonderful girl currently has ZERO applications.
She needs some adoption applications or a rescue very soon because she
won’t get to stay through Thanksgiving. Hurry in to meet this great
dog and give her a forever home!

Well, the law school sure has a big heart!!!
Athens-Clarke County Animal Control (http://www.athenspets.net/) was thrilled to accept delivery of 130.2 POUNDS of dry dog food!!!
And 64 cans and 5 bags of dog treats were delivered to the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter (http://www.moaspets.org/).

Macy is a little designer dog (possibly a schnoodle) who’s already been here a few days without any applications. She’s wearing a bright collar, but no ID tags, so it’s hard to locate her family. Also, she is very thin and her coat is in horrible condition. She would be much more comfortable after a nice bath, groom, and brush-out. It’s important to remember that dogs like Macy need to be brushed regularly and groomed every 4-6 weeks so that their coats don’t become matted or tangled. This is a commitment that Macy’s new owners will need to make so that she can be beautiful and comfortable all year long. In spite of her current situation, Macy is a very happy dog who just loves people (and cookies too!). She would dance around on her hind legs or sit pretty for a cookie and hopped right up on the bench to sit beside someone to get some attention. She’s definitely very people oriented and would make a great companion for someone looking for a small, yet playful, dog to complete their family. Please don’t let Macy’s age deter you from adopting her. Small dogs like Macy can live for more than 15 years with proper preventative medicine, nutrition, and exercise, so she has a lot of years left to love! Why choose me?
Oz is a little poodle/terrier mix weighing in at only 16 pounds. Oz ended up at animal control after possibly being hit by a car. Oz can walk and get around just fine but has a problem bumping in to things because of blindness. There is a cataract in the left eye and the right eye seems to have some sort of infection. Oz is available only to rescue groups because of the blindness. Besides the blindness, Oz seems to be a nice dog who didn’t fuss at all about being picked up, carried.

Ralph is a super smart dog and very well behaved. He knows how to sit and shake and is very friendly. He is a “hopper” and might jump over a low fence, but this guy would surely know better. He would be a great addition to any household!

Beautiful Juno is no stranger to animal control and is well-known by the staff and officers. In spite of her regular trips to animal control, she is in wonderful health and even appears to have been groomed recently. She also knows some basic obedience and will sit on command. If Juno is not reclaimed by her owner, she’d love a new family that makes sure that she is safe and happy in the home as part of the family and not running through the streets and ending up at animal control. Animal Control is in dire need of adult and puppy dog food, both dry and canned. If you are able, please purchase a bag and bring it in to donate for the pups at the shelter! We are down to maybe 2 weeks worth of food because of such a large number of dogs being impounded these days.

Tukwila is a bit overwhelmed to be here at the pound. He is a beautiful Pug, and already neutered! Tukwila is in need of a nail trim and a diet, but otherwise he looks great and well cared for. Tukwila is a bit unsure about leaving his run, but if you quietly and calmly sit in his kennel and speak kind words to him, he’ll come up for a pet or two, as long as you move slowly. Tukwila is a nice little boy, looking for someone who will keep him safe- is that you?
Update 11/1: As of Sunday Tukwila has ZERO applications! Come meet this sweetheart soon. Also, Tukwila has 2 bumps on his belly which might be fat deposits, tumors, a cyst, etc. He also needs to have his left eye looked at by a vet. Regardless, Tukwila will need to be seen by a vet once adopted. He is such a sweetie, and so worth it.

Nora is rescue only because she bit an ACCAC employee. Nora needs a rescue willing to work with possible fear aggression, and ongoing, extensive socialization. Nora has come a long way and her story starts as a sad one. She was thought to be dead on the side of the road, but was barely alive from starvation. The staff didn’t think she would make it over night, but somehow she pushed her way through. Nora was just skin and bones and was nicknamed Skelatora and I decided to shorten it to Nora. Some of the staff share a real soft spot for her and have been working to help her overcome her fear and anxiety issues. She shows severe signs of neglect…and if someone could look past her scrawny body and fear issues she could make a good friend one day.
Update 10/30: A wonderful and caring citizen would like to donate $150 to the rescue group that saves Nora. Please contact Allyson at athenspets@gmail.com if your licensed rescue group saves sweet Nora.

Pollo is the daughter of Marko (29267). This tiny teacup baby is only 3 pounds and is very delicate. She is very malnourished at the moment and could really use a home that will fatten her up and love on her. She also has cherry eye and can be fixed with a simple surgical procedure. Her eye has gotten worse over the past couple of days, but her eye shouldn’t be damaged. Her ears are covered in scratches and cuts, but I’m not sure what caused it and it doesn’t seem to bother her. Pollo is more affectionate than her father…all she wants to do is cuddle. She is pretty cold here and tries to huddle next to her father or in your arms. Please come cuddle with this tiny baby soon.

Marko is a bouncing ball of fun here at the pound. This tiny guy isn’t alone and has brought his baby son with him too (Pollo 29268). This guy is full of energy and will jump 4ft in the air as you are meeting him. He shows all the typical characteristics of a Jack Russell, so this is probably an intelligent guy. Marko walks perfect on the leash and will do anything for a little piece of cheese. Come meet Marko and Pollo soon!

Aries is the most beautiful black German Shepherd I’ve ever seen! Aries is in need of some socialization and hugs. She doesn’t understand why she is at the pound. Her disposition is calm and tender. She was submissive towards me as I leashed her, but I have to warn you if you try and walk her please be very patient with her needs. She is very scared of the leash and doesn’t understand why it has to go around her neck and pull her around…she thinks she can walk just fine on her own. She will freeze and wont budge until you push her, but once she trusts you she will probably be a great walking buddy. Aries loves to have her face massaged the most…she will close her eyes and melt in your hands. She also has a permanent ear flop due to a healed old injury that broke her ear and was never properly treated. Come meet Aries and show her you can be best friends.

Please monitor your comments and do not leave negative comments that could discourage visitors from visiting our shelter because this is a family friendly website. Please leave comments that will only to benefit Linus’ future. Linus has a really sad story…He is a Rescue Only case because he is in great need of medical attention. Linus has such a sweet disposition and loves to be scratched on his head. He may be partially blind, but he could follow my hand side to side and up and down with no problems. He also saw my cheese treats wherever I placed them on the ground around him. Linus came into the wrong hands recently and the person tried to kill him by cutting of his head. He has a large gapping wound that needs medical attention. Linus is also covered in abrasions that were probably caused by the same person. I don’t know if the person was caught…please do not focus on that part, please focus on Linus and his wellbeing. There is nothing we can do about the person and we will leave that up to the officers. Any donations on his behalf would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to ask if someone with tender and experienced hands could come and wash this poor boy. He is covered in some sort of ink that is covering parts of his body. Despite all that has happened to him he doesn’t seem to have a mean bone in his body. The staff are watching him closely and really don’t want to see him be put down. Please rescue groups give Linus another chance at life.
update 11-2-09: Linus is most likely dog aggressive as he reacted very negatively to dogs near his kennel. Linus can see, partially. Also, a kind volunteer came in and bathed Linus today so he is looking a bit better.

This brindle baby needs to be rescued ASAP! He has been at the pound for well over a week, but he’s only available to rescue groups. He’s a sweet, easy-going pup with a playful personality. He’s very attentive to people and he’s perfectly content just hanging out, receiving belly rubs, or fetching tennis balls. They don’t get much sweeter than this little guy, so please hurry to save him!!
