Just received this as a forward…please consider sending a (polite) message to the proper authorities!
The following letter was recently sent to College Park, GA residents in their water bills. There was no notice that such an ordinance was being discussed much less passed. It is crucial that citizens of the city of College Park, GA express their condemnation of the ordinance, especially dog owners!

Three-Legged Pooch Wins Top Honors at the ASPCA Talent Show
On February 12, a three-legged Pit Bull named Prince was crowned top dog at the ASPCA’s 5th Annual Talent Competition for shelter pups in New York City. The talented two year old wowed the crowd as a major league “catcher,” expertly retrieving three strikes from his equally skilled handler/pitcher.
Prince and eight other dogs demonstrated their diverse talents in front of a panel of celebrity judges and an adoring crowd at our Adoption Center. Judges included Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Roberta Flack, Tony award-winning actress Bernadette Peters, ballroom dance champion and choreographer from So You Think You Can Dance Melanie LaPatin and Assistant Director of ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Joseph Pentangelo.
“The talent show demonstrates the resilience of these wonderful dogs,” says Gail Buchwald, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA Adoption Center, “but the real prize will be finding their two-legged soul mates and homes to call their own.”
We’re happy to report that three of Prince’s fellow contestants were adopted in the days following the big show: Stormy, a big, beautiful Pit girl; Ted, a Saint Bernard mix; and sun-worshipping Sebastian, who delighted the audience with his limbo and skateboarding skills.

Dogfighting Ring Busted At Suburban Day Care
Huffington Post | Tim Taliaferro
First Posted: 09-23-09 03:51 PM | Updated: 09-23-09 07:11 PM
Cook County sheriffs raided a suburban day care Tuesday after learning it was being used as a front for what officers described as one of the most gruesome dogfighting operations they had ever seen.
Three people were arrested and nine dogs were found during the raid on a licensed home day care in Maywood, including one with a leg twisted backward, another whose limbs appeared to have been nearly torn off and a puppy that had had an eye ripped out. Ten children were being watched at the time, police said.
“Kids were playing on a swing set just 10 feet away from a vicious fighting dog and blood-stained floors,” Sheriff Tom Dart said in a statement Wednesday. “The very equipment used to train these dogs to kill was being kept in the garage right behind the house. To be engaged in this sort of activity is disturbing enough, but to take a chance with anybody’s children is reprehensible.”
One of the three alleged ringleaders is related to the day care owner, who denied any involvement with the dogfighting, police said.
Animal Crime Unit officers described the scene at the day care and at two other homes they raided as among the most gruesome they have uncovered.
In the garage, police found an 18-month-old pit bull with three 4-week old puppies. They were all kept in a wire cage soaked in feces and urine, and all were emaciated. Police believe the puppies were already being used in fights as “bait dogs.”
The rescued dogs are now at the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge, where many underwent emergency surgery, director Linda Estrada told the SouthtownStar.
“One dog’s leg will have to be amputated because it was broken and never treated,” she said. “We took the collar off one dog and its neck was so swollen and infected, that it would have died within days.”
Two of the men have been charged with felony dog-fighting. A third man, who kept the dogs at his home for $60 a month, is charged with being a felon in possession of an un-spayed or un-neutered dog.
There are 2 other men who are targets of the investigation, but who have not yet been charged or apprehended.

Cook County sheriffs broke up an alleged dogfighting ring at a suburban home day care Tuesday. They found nine mangled and malnourished dogs, many with scars on their faces and unable to stand.
Sheriffs found blood stains on a vehicle parked in one of the garages where dogs were held.
Authorities say some dogs were kept in filthy cages, either at the day care or at one of two other Maywood house garages.
The day care garage with swing set in the foreground. Police allege kids played just feet from where the dogs were kept. The day care was shut down Wednesday and its owner surrendered her license.
One of the sheds were dogs were allegedly kept.
Sheriffs said they found blood and feces in and around the cages where the dogs were locked up.
Police believe this modified treadmill was used to train the dogs for fighting.
One of the dogs found was missing an eye. Sheriffs said the scene was among the most gruesome they had ever seen.
Lance Webb, 27, of Maywood, is charged with felony dogfighting. Authorities claim the injured dogs and puppies at 2025 S. Sixth Ave. were his.
Charles Sutton, 42, of Maywood, is charged with felony dogfighting. His wife operated the day care home.
Martez Anderson, 38, of Maywood, is charged with being a felon in possession of an unspayed or unneutered dog, a misdemeanor. He allegedly kept the fighting dogs at his house.

Charlie Rose- #28598
- Age: 1 year
- Breed: Pitbull/Bull Terrier mix
- Gender: Female
- Impound Date: 7/10
- Ledger: 28598
Why Choose Me?
Charlie Rose is a very special girl. She finds herself at animal control because her owners were not caring for her properly to the extreme of serious neglect, bordering on animal cruelty. For the last 7 weeks she has been nursing 6 puppies (28599-28604) without receiving proper nutrition for herself. All of her energy has gone towards providing food for her puppies, so she is seriously underweight. She currently weighs 33 pounds, but a considerable portion of that weight is locating in her “udders” (which is what they look like right now!) instead of her body, so she actually weights even less than that. Poor Charlie Rose is little more than skin and bones right now. I could have counted every rib and pointed out many of her bones with little effort. In spite of her neglect, Charlie Rose is a very, very sweet girl. She sits very quietly in her kennel and waits expectantly for someone to come by and visit with her. She walks very politely on the leash and will even sit for treats, which she takes so gently and politely.. She absolutely loves being petted and will sit so still while someone rubs her head, ears, and back. Whoever has the privilege of adopting sweet Charlie Rose will be so blessed because she is such a sweetheart who has so much love to give. Please, give this sweet girl a chance and give her a loving home. She deserves it!!
Update: This was sent to me from someone who volunteers at Animal Control: Hi Allyson, I saw your picture and story of Charlie Rose on the website today. She is the pitbull terrier who had the puppies and is so seriously neglected. Although I couldn’t take her I had to come see her. She was laying in her kennel when I got there, and jumped right up. She couldn’t wait to get out of her kennel. She walked so gently on the leash, and is obviously potty trained, as her kennel was cleaned and she did her business outside. Her big head on that skinny little body was so heartbreaking to see. We walked for a little bit and when I brought her back to her kennel she didn’t want to go. She was so sweet and gentle that it absolutely amazed me considering what she had been through. Needless to say I talked to the girls there and I would like to pay for her spay and rabies shot in the hopes that this will help her get adopted. My information is in her file.
Charlie Rose’s Puppies – #s28599, 28600, 28601, 28602, 28603, 28604
- Age: 7 weeks
- Breed: Pitbull Terrier mixes
- Gender: 4 males, 2 females
- Impound Date: 7/10
- Ledger: 28599, 28600, 28601, 28602, 28603, 28604
Why Choose Me?
These cutie pies all belong to sweet Charlie Rose, but she is more than happy to offer all of them up to you for adoption! Because of Charlie Rose’s poor nutrition, her pups are all a little on the small side, probably stunted, and weigh between 3 and 4.5 pounds. They should start growing like normal puppies once they receive quality nutrition. It’s hard to estimate how big they will be once fully grown since they’re growth has been disrupted, but I would guess that they would be at least 30 pounds (probably more) once fully grown. They are all black with white markings somewhere on their face, chest, or paws. They really are very cute! Charlie Rose requests that her puppies be treated better than she has been and all cared for properly for the rest of their lives. Please help Charlie Rose’s wish come true!
Snap- #28609- URGENT
- Age: 8 months
- Breed: Shepherd mix
- Gender: Male
- Impound Date: 7/10
- Ledger: 28609
Why Choose Me?
Poor Snap was surrendered by his owners as soon as the facility opened on Saturday because they said that they just couldn’t keep him anymore. Their loss is your gain because Snap is a very fun guy. He has the most adorable ears that can’t seem to decide whether to stand up straight like those of a German shepherd, flop halfway down, or stick out to the side. Most of the time his ears end up in a position somewhere in between and they never seem to match each other. They really give him so much character! He also has a funny tail that curls to the side and around into a corkscrew even though it’s a rather long tail. His goofy appearance really suits his personality. He loves to run, play, and hop around and seems to be a very high energy boy. He will need to be properly exercised every day so that he stays well-behaved and happy. Snap would be the perfect companion for a runner or someone who need a playful companion for another active dog. If you think that Snap is a great fit for you, don’t delay because the pound is nearly full and owner surrenders like Snap aren’t guaranteed any time.
Matilda- #28611
- Breed: Cattledog mix
- Gender: Female
- Impound Date: 7/11
- Ledger: 28611
Why Choose Me?
Matilda is an Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) who seems to have wondered away from home. She looks like she has recently been shaved down (to help her cope with the heat of a Georgia summer) and is wearing a nice red harness. Unfortunately, there are no tags on her harness, so animal control cannot quickly locate her owner. If she is not reclaimed, she will need a new home. Cattle Dogs have a long live expectancy (more than 15 years!) so even though she is an older gal, she has many years left to give and receive love. Matilda is a herding dog by nature, so her new owners will need to provide proper outlets for her energy (mentally and physically) so that she doesn’t feel the need to herd her family. She is in her golden years, so those requirements are considerably less than a younger dog. A nice, daily walk with some basic obedience mixed in (to keep her working her big doggie brain) would probably be best for Matilda.
Molly- #28506
- Age: 6-12 months
- Breed: Pit/Hound mix
- Gender: Female
- Impound Date: 6/25
- Ledger: 28506
Why Choose Me?
Molly is less than a year old and she will definitely grow to be a great dog! While she is very playful and loves the company of people, she is also responsive to discipline and is well-mannered. She loves attention and wants nothing more than to be out of her cage so she can run around and play! Molly is the perfect age to be introduced to a new family. Come by and see this cutie!
Update: This sweet, sweet angel is living on borrowed time. She’s been here too long now, and she has no current applications on her. She doesn’t have much longer. Hurry in for this perfect little girl! She’s an absolute treasure! She is definitely an urgent case!
Boo- #28593
- Age: 3 years
- Breed: Lab mix
- Gender: Female
- Impound Date: 7/9
- Ledger: 28593
Why Choose Me?
Sadly, Boo was surrendered by her owner of three years. I kept wanting to call her “Mini” because she is a little mini-Lab but she has already been named! Boo is spayed and up to date on all her vaccines… WOW! She is a catch, I really can’t believe that she was surrendered, she is literally the perfect package. She would fit great in an apartment or a small home because she is such a great size! Please come save Boo, she must be so confused to why she’s being kept in the pound after living in a home for three years.
Smokey- #28573
- Age: 1 year
- Breed: Border Collie/Husky mix
- Gender: Male
- Impound Date: 7/7
- Ledger: 28573
Why Choose Me?
Smokey is such a sweetheart. He was found by some vet school students who couldn’t keep him, but they did give him a bath before bringing him to the pound, since he was very muddy. What a beautiful dog without the mud! With a real grooming and blow dry, he will be devastating
And he’s got a personality just as beautiful. Friendly, confident yet submissive to humans – all he wants to do is please, and he’s got the border collie smarts to learn fast.
Frank- #28549
- Age: 6-12 months
- Breed: Labrador Mix
- Gender: Male
- Impound Date: 6/30
- Ledger: 28549
Why Choose Me?
Frank is certainly in need of a good meal. He is thin and has some scars on his body, making him look a bit rough on the outside. However, this dog is one sweet, submissive and gentle guy! Frank is one of those dogs that ‘smiles’ at visitors while turning his head sideways and wagging his tail low to the ground. Though it looks like he’s showing his teeth, Frank doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, and lapped up attention like a pro. Once he gets some groceries in him, his ribs will no longer be visible, and his coat will shine. Despite his current condition, Frankhas a graceful way of moving, and it’s obvious he will become a beautiful dog in just a short time!
Update: This LOVE is still at Animal Control with no applications on him.
He is almost out of time.
FREDERICK COUNTY, MD – A Frederick man will spend the next 20 years behind bars after pleading guilty to a separate armed robbery and animal mutilation charge.
Troy Goines was accused of robbing a 7-11 store on East Street in Frederick last year.
DNA evidence helped investigators connect Goines to the robbery.
Goines also admitted punching an 8-month-old pit bull in the face during incident last August.
Goines still faces a violation of probation charge stemming from a 2003 armed robbery conviction.
A ruling in that case could lead to another six year sentence.

2 teenagers charged with burning pit bull
Animal’s fatal dousing with gasoline sparked national outrage
Baltimore police said they have charged two teenagers with dousing a young pit bull with gasoline and setting it on fire in West Baltimore last month, a case that sparked furor over animal cruelty and generated more than $26,000 in donations to find the culprits.
Police canceled a morning news conference Monday to discuss the arrests, which occurred over the weekend, saying detectives were consulting with prosecutors. No additional details were provided.
“The case is still very much open and under investigation, and we are working with prosecutors to go over evidence and bring this case forward,” said Anthony Guglielmi, chief spokesman for the Police Department.
Because the suspects were charged as juveniles, their identities are not made public, though television news reports identified the suspects as 17-year-old twin brothers. Their parents appeared on camera outside the Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center maintaining the boys’ innocence, saying they were turned in for the reward money.
Word of an arrest was encouraging for animal welfare advocates, who said they received an outpouring of grief and anger from across the country as news spread about Phoenix, the nickname caregivers gave the female pit bull. A reward fund climbed past $26,000, well above the $2,000 typically offered by Metro Crime Stoppers for tips when people are killed.
Debra Rahl, programs director for Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, said one woman called from Venice Beach, Calif., saying she and her neighbors were horrified about what happened and wanted to help pay for the dog’s medical expenses. The woman said they were holding a candlelight vigil for Phoenix on the beach there, Rahl said.
“We were all very excited to hear that there was an arrest made, and we’re just hoping there’s justice for Phoenix,” Rahl said. “We’re still very sad that she did not make it, but she didn’t die in vain. It raised awareness of what happens with animals here in the city and across the country.”
Police officer Syreeta Teel found the dog engulfed in flames May 27 in the 1600 block of Presbury St. in the Sandtown Winchester neighborhood. Teel, who owns a pit bull and received an honor from the city last week for her actions, threw her sweat shirt over the dog to extinguish the flames.
Phoenix suffered burns on 95 percent of her body and was taken to BARCS, where officials called it one of the most severe cases of animal cruelty they had ever seen.
She was eventually transported to the Metropolitan Veterinary Associates center outside Philadelphia to receive 24-hour care. Caregivers noted that Phoenix remained in good spirits despite her condition, wagging her tail as she was treated.
Extensive burns caused so much swelling around her face and rear quarters that, according to nurse Julie Hirsch, the dog was “barely recognizable,” and she began to experience kidney failure. After determining the dog had little chance of a long-term recovery, hospital staff took Phoenix outside to be euthanized, hoping that a little flicker of sunshine would give her some happiness, Hirsch said.
On Monday, in the neighborhood were the dog was set on fire, fliers were plastered on boarded-up windows and lampposts along a street littered with trash and overgrown weeds.
“You or your neighbors may know who is responsible for torturing this poor dog,” read one of the fliers.
“Call before someone else does. Do the right thing!” read another.
Rahl said the reward money will not be paid until a conviction is secured. Some of the money also went to the Franky Fund, which helps care for homeless pets.

This mama was a chained dog turned over to Dogs Deserve Better and she is the best mama ever! Do you know anyone looking for a snuggly 95 pound velvety soft, slobbery family member? Or one of her babies? Reply to Denise: 678-799-4167 or denbhl@yahoo.com
Niobe: 2 years old, Female Pure Bred Cane Corso:

There could not be a more grateful/appreciative/cuddly dog than Niobe. Her name means African Queen and her pure black velvet fur is just royal. This large girl, 95 pounds, is a hero. After her first two years of life on a chain, and two litters, she has maintained a pure, innocent, sweet spirit and personality to match. The only side effect we’ve seen is her desire to make piles of toys and bury treats for later consumption. Her head is the size of a volleyball and her wrinkled brow, flabby neck, floppy ears, short snout and slobbery kisses will win your heart. She loves fetching balls and still has that young puppy desire to play.
But in pure Cane Corso style, after a few minutes, she is ready for a rest, a drink of water and some lovin. Niobe doesn’t mind cats at all – only cares if you are petting or playing with her, or if she can sit next to you and watch TV. If you do not want your dog to be your shadow, and follow you everywhere, she is not for you, because she sticks to you like glue. Male dogs are OK too. Spayed/vetter/adoption fee/home check/references. Good with cats/dogs/people. Contact Denise at 678-799-4167 or denbhl@yahoo.com
Ava – Female Cane Corso/Pit Mix 10 weeks, spayed, vetted:
Beautiful Ava’s spirit and energy are something special. This 10 week old pup’s mama was malnourished and lived on a chain. Mama is a Pure Bred black Cane Corso and daddy is a pure bred black Pit Bull. They were rescued at one week old and immediatly mama was put on the best quality food, so the puppies could get strong. It was tough, and little Ava was the smallest puppy, but boy did she have a strong spirit that pulled her through. It is that strong spirit to live that energizes her now. Fiesty, with attitude and sass and very vocal, this little pup is going to be a big strong DIVA who needs an owner who knows the breeds and can be the alpha leader Ava wants. But she is all love and cuddles when it comes down to it, curling up to her sister like a baby. She will be about 65-80 pounds. Spayed/vetted/adoption fee/home check/references. Good with cats/dogs/people. Contact Denise at 678-799-4167 or denbhl@yahoo.com
Sophia – Female Cane Corso/Pit Mix 10 weeks, spayed, vetted. I’ve met a girl named “S o p h i a ….” What a doll! This beautiful pup’s wrinkles, fat legs, short snout and long ears will melt your heart. A mix of Pure Bred Cane Corso/Pit Bull, she has more of the Cane Corso traits and personality than Pit Bull. Expect a very large girl, about 90-100 pounds who will want to play for about 5-10 minutes and then sit on the couch to watch soaps. As her new forever owner, you’ll feel good knowing that she was slated for a life on a chain until a volunteer convinced her owners to give her and her sister and mama up for a better life. Don’t take it personally when we are very picky about her new home. Everybody loves and wants Sophia! Spayed/vetter/adoption fee/home check/references. Good with cats/dogs/people. I was wondering if any of you possibly know anybody who could be a potential “special situation” foster for TLC Rescue. It needs to be a home that has no dogs or a large forgiving male. We took in a female Pit Bull named Katie about 1 month ago.
She was in heat when we took her in so we waited until she was spayed and
her hormones settled before she was slowly introduced to her foster brother
and sisters. Things went really well with everybody except one of the other
Pit females. As we all know, this is common for same sex bully breeds to show
aggression towards each other.
My husband and I have 6 dogs…2 of those are a male and female Pits. To be honest, we have said that we will not have another Pit in the house because of the chance of the same sex not getting along, but our friend was in a predicament with Katie and we wanted to help them both out.
We have gained a lot by getting to know Katie because she is awesome, but we are very sad because for our dogs’ safety and Katie’s safety we are now boarding her at the Four Seasons Hotel Kennel in Athens. It really broke our hearts to bring her there…not that it is a bad place, but Katie loved being at our house. She was so good! She was potty trained from day one and she loved her crate. She loves toys and humans. Any human young or old she adores! She was becoming perfect on the leash too. Still when she gets nervous she will pull, but she responds well to correction. Katie is HW positive, but is being treated this week so she will need lots
of leash walks!
I know that you all have heard it again and again…and I know it is true because there are a ton of wonderful dogs that need second chances, but this dog really has stolen our hearts. She is about 3 years old and it looks as if she has been a mother many times and has been neglected.
Also, she has no clue how to act around other dogs. She showed no signs of aggression, but definitely has no manners around other dogs which
is what I think really upset our female. I could go on and on about Katie,
but will spare all of you! Please if you have any advice or know somebody
that may be interested in fostering in or near the Athens area please send
them my way.
Thanks!
