Thanks and happy holidays! Chamblee Abernethy in Decatur, GA
Hi everyone, I rescued Sweet Pea and her newborn litter of puppies off of Six Flags Drive in early November. It was pouring down rain and freezing outside when I found them under the porch of an abandoned house. I later found out that Sweet Pea had been living along Six Flags Drive for years, having litter after litter before being rescued. They have been living in a foster home since then and are doing GREAT!!! Sweet Pea looks like a Lab/Hound mix and weighs around 35 lbs so the puppies will probably grow to be medium sized dogs. The puppies are around 6-7 weeks old so they will be ready for adoption right after Christmas. They will be fully vetted before going to their new homes. The following are descriptions of each puppy:
Nutmeg: (MALE – red collar) is the smallest of the litter. He had a rough start and was bottle fed as well as being nursed. This little man is quickly catching up to the others. He loves to snuggle and play and is a very special puppy.
Autumn: (FEMALE – green collar) is the alpha dog and is the largest pup of the litter. She enjoys playing with the other dogs and her toys.
Lavender: (FEMALE – purple collar) is one happy little girl. She is loves interacting with her sisters. She is full of curiosity and love.
Flower: (FEMALE – pink collar) is the little princess. She has beautiful coloring and she knows it. If she were human she’d be the prom queen. I think she would make a great dog for an active family; she is feisty and loves being the center of attention.
Violet: (FEMALE – light blue collar) is a little angel. She loves to cuddle and is the sweetest of the girls. She loves her toys and exploring.
All of the puppies do well with children and other dogs, both large and small. They are all doing very well with their puppy pad training and they love to eat. Nutmeg the smallest, and Autumn the biggest, are always last at the bowl.
We are asking for an adoption fee of $150 to cover their veterinary bills and spay/neuter.

PERMISSION TO CROSS POST; Complete info here!

CAPONE— SCARED LITTLE GUY WITH SAD STORY! —I would like to this boy out of here asap. His stray hold is over 12/6.
Capone’s mother was hit by a car. He guarded the body for 3 days. Some animal lovers trapped him in a raccoon trap and brought him into MAC. He was marked as feral/unsocialized. I sat with him this morning. He probably hasn’t had much human contact, but he never bit, growled or snapped when I handled him. He’s just scared and has no idea what is going on. When I have scared puppies like this, the best thing I can do for them is to mix with an outgoing puppy and start the rescue search. He has been mixed with Ditty (mentioned above). They are doing great together. He’s only about 3.5 mos old and weighs around 15 lbs. He has already opened up a bit with Ditty’s help and it’s only been an hour. He will need a little TLC handling to get him to trust people, but it’s totally doable. He’s a cutie. He’s had a DHPP, Bordetella, flea treatment and deworming. UPDATE: DITTY WAS RESCUED. CAPONE LOST HIS FRIEND! CAN YOU HELP?

WILKIE—SCARED LITTLE GIRL—I would like to this girl out of here asap. Her stray hold is over 12/6.
Wilkie was picked up as a stray at a local school. Her stray hold is up on 12/6. She is about 5.5-6 mos old. She’s a very gentle girl and just rolls over for a belly rub. There is not a mean bone in this girl’s body, but she is very scared and in need of some TLC. Her general body condition is poor. Her skin is a little flaky from poor nutrition. She has a spot on his ear that is a little flaky/scabby. It looks like bite wounds agitated by flies. Our vet will take a look at her to make sure it is nothing contagious. This girl is not very big. She only weighs about 25 lbs. She needs to gain some weight. She needs you! Can you help?

PLEASE CROSS POST!
My dear friend, Silvi Shaw, the angel that she is… rescued poor Sally off the streets just six weeks ago. The next day, Sally gave birth to ELEVEN healthy pups. The pups are 6 weeks old and ready to be adopted! The pictures below speak for themselves.
Anyone interested in adopting one of these precious babies, please contact Silvi at silvi-shaw@aem-net.com
Thanks for spreading the word to get these pups into forever homes asap!
Chamblee
Sally’s pups are now 6 weeks old (born October 19 … the whole day), and are scheduled for their first set of puppy shots this week (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday). I will schedule and pay for their neuters in a couple more weeks and will pay for puppy food during their foster. Anyone interested in fostering one or three until I find them permanent homes? They will be adopted out under A Welcome Home Animal Rescue, so you won’t even need to be concerned with paperwork or anything.
Sally is a little black stray (lab mix) found foraging for food on our bad SW Atlanta streets on her last day of pregnancy. She laid 11 pups the day after I picked her up, and has been a wonderful mom. Each pup is precious with very sweet personalities. They are fun and have a ton of love to share, but, of course, will require humans with patience (they’re just babies).
Please email me if you’d like to foster. Otherwise, if you know of someone who might want to adopt in a couple of weeks, please send them my way. Thank you!
Silvi

Animal Friends,
PLEASE, PLEASE help me with this situation. This starving mother dog (2nd photo) and her SEVEN starving puppies have been abandoned at an empty house on the road where I live, near Commerce, Georgia. I took these pictures this morning after I dumped 20 lbs. of dog food in the grass for them. They look to be a shepherd mix, and based on the mother, may end up 40 -50 lbs. full grown and fed. I dont have anywhere to house them for any extended length of time, but they must be helped or they will end up as a dangerous, starving pack of dogs living on my street. I have over 20 personal animals (all former rescues) to care for and I cannot take on any more permanently. I am looking for anyone who would be willing to help to feed, foster, adopt or transport if they need to get to someone who can help to adopt them into safe, caring homes. I can catch them all and start to socialize them more, but I have to have somewhere for them to go soon, even if it is one or two at a time. Where I can put them in a pen temporarily is not big enough to keep them and I will have to find somewhere else to keep the mother so she can rest and recover from trying to feed them.
Please circulate this email for me as I desperately need to know I can get them and have homes in the works. They deserve a chance for a real life and this situation is definitely not it! I am very willing to help transport them out of state to a rescue if that is what is necessary for them to be adopted.
Please call or email me directly if you can help in any manner.
Sincerely,
Missy Shepherd

Dogs left to die in Concord
More than 30 found abandoned on road; most recovered
Animal control officer Carol Robinson is no stranger to finding abandoned dogs, but what she saw Sunday was particularly disturbing.
Left to die on Old Trevett Road in the Town of Concord were more than 30 dogs, mostly Jack Russells and small terrier mixes, including a few puppies. One dog was already dead.
“When I got there, as far as the eye could see, were dogs,” said Robinson, an animal control officer for Concord.
With help from others, she rounded up 29 of the dogs, then returned to catch another. Some other dogs are still on the loose.
Many of the dogs were pregnant, leading Robinson to conclude they had been used for breeding before being dumped on the side of the road.
“I believe these are puppy mill dogs,” Robinson said, referring to the mass production of animals under often cruel conditions. “These are the type of dogs that the puppy mills churn out … “
She said about 15 of the dogs “wanted to have me hold them and pick them up.” Others, she said, were petrified and seemed afraid of the outdoors.
Robinson believes the person responsible was someone from the area who knew there were no houses on the road where the dogs were left.
The animals, who are being evaluated by the SPCA, “were covered in feces and urine and fleas” when they arrived, as well as skin diseases, said spokeswoman Gina Browning of the SPCA in the Town of Tonawanda. She appealed to the public to help defray veterinary expenses.
The SPCA has begun an investigation and is seeking information that can shed light on what happened. Browning said the SPCA will respond to anonymous tips.
To provide information or to offer help financially, call the SPCA at 875-7360 or visit the Web site at www.yourspca.org.

Man rescues dog from traffic; gets more than he bargained for
By Katie Leslie
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
When Gary DeNicola rescued a stray animal in late September, he planned to drop her off at a shelter the next day. But then one dog became 10, and DeNicola became an animal shelter himself.
The commercial real estate executive didn’t hesitate when he saw the small reddish dog dodging traffic at a busy intersection. On his way to Sunday brunch, he had taken a detour through Bolton Road when he spotted her, so he pulled over and coaxed the animal to safety. She was starving and emaciated, and appeared to have been nursing. He searched the area for puppies and found none, so he placed the petite mutt into his car and turned toward home.
Gary DeNicola hauls the litter of puppies in a wagon. DeNicola didn’t plan to have so many dogs. But the one stray he took in soon gave birth nine puppies. Katie Leslie.
At the time, DeNicola had one dog, but by no means was an animal activist. He wasn’t affiliated with any rescue groups, but knew he couldn’t leave the dog in the city streets. He had a plan: keep her that night and drop her off at an animal shelter Monday morning. Ruby, as she soon would be called, had something else in mind.
Not wanting to bring the animal with an unknown background around Tiger, his 12-year-old Cairn terrier mix, DeNicola let the pup eat, drink and rest in his spacious backyard in Virginia-Highland.
“At that point, I actually felt a kick and put two and two together and realized she was pregnant,” he explained.
Still, DeNicola planned to take her to a shelter. He didn’t dream his backyard would become a birthing center. That evening, on Sept. 27, DeNicola noticed the dog begin to hunker down in a garden bed. Next, she was giving birth to one, two, four, seven, and then nine black and tan puppies.
DeNicola is now raising the lucky litter on his own until he can find qualified, permanent homes and has built a special pen for the dogs in his basement. Katie Leslie.
DeNicola began making calls to shelters and soon discovered many area animal rescue groups are at full capacity. People struggling financially had abandoned their animals, and many pets were turned out during the flood, he was told.
“And one shelter wouldn’t take the newborn pups until they were vaccinated,” he said. “I realized — they are mine.”
Cathy Sleva, director of development of the Atlanta Humane Society, confirmed that many shelters are facing overcrowding. The AHS is currently undergoing a renovation and has no space for new animals, but she noted once it completes renovation around Thanksgiving the shelter will have 20 percent increased capacity and may be able to help DeNicola place remaining pups at that time.
DeNicola is now raising the lucky litter on his own until he can find qualified, permanent homes. He built a special pen for the dogs in his basement, not wanting to mix the new deliveries with Tiger, who isn’t sure how to handle the strange sounds coming from below.
“He had been voicing silent protest,” DeNicola said.
Neighbors, like Thomas Brooks and Jody Davis, are pitching in to help the bewildered pet owner.
“Gary was definitely in new father shock,” said Davis, whose 3-year-old son Will Brooks named the mother Ruby for her reddish coat.
He’s taking the pups, now five weeks old, to the vet next week for their first shots and check-ups. He’s already found a good home for Ruby when the time comes to separate the mom and litter. He believes Ruby, who knows how to sit on command and has a sweet demeanor, may have been abandoned when her owner saw she was pregnant. Ruby was scanned for a microchip, but had none.
DeNicola says he doesn’t plan to keep any of the puppies, but may be breaking his resolve. After all, he named a couple with notable characteristics: Winnie, the tiny black escape artist; and The Colonel, the biggest tan boy of the bunch.
People interested in Ruby’s family may contact DeNicola at gdenic@aol.com.
UPDATE: The puppies are safe and are going to be re-homed by a veterinarian.
Hi all,
We now have three beautiful beagle mix puppies that are in desperate need for a loving home or homes! The photos below show how adorable they are. They were dropped off in a lady’s yard and she will have to take them to animal control if she can’t find help for them. Please crosspost widely to rescue groups and friends! Thanks!
Linda

These 3 beagle mix puppies have been dropped in my yard, and they need to go to a loving home. If I can’t place them, I will have to call animal control. They are really sweet, very hungry, and certainly pitiful. I have not taken them to the vet, but I am feeding them. If I can find someone who will take them around Hoschton, I don’t mind driving them there. Please contact me quickly if you know of someone who has the heart, room, and time for these cute little ones or if anyone would volunteer to take them to find them homes. In the rural area where we are located, there aren’t many options for stray dropped dogs. Please forward to anyone you think might know how to get them good homes.
